Subject Leadership

Lisa offers two Subject Leadership Training packages. One is an extended piece of work with a number of school leaders over three terms. Lisa also offers a one day Subject Leadership training course which is suitable for all Subject Leaders.

The Extended Subject Leadership Training Package:

This package of CPD is intended to support schools in ensuring they adopt and construct a curriculum that is ambitious and embedded securely and consistently. 

Headteachers will allocate time to support their subject leaders to review and reflect on pedagogy, curriculum content, what pupils know and remember and the quality of outcomes. 

Subject Leaders (with their Headteachers) will complete activities (relevant to all curriculum subjects) during each session and will have further work to complete back at school before each session.

This project is designed to facilitate valuable time for Subject Leaders and Headteachers to reflect on current practice within their own school. 

At the end of the five days, each school should feel able to monitor and evaluate the quality of education through the lens of any specific subject. It is recommended (though not compulsory) that the same Subject Leader attends all five sessions if the school is to get the most from this package.

Intended Audience:

Headteachers

Experienced and Inexperienced Subject Leaders

• Session 1: The Curriculum

AM – Headteacher and Subject Leader

PM – Subject Leader only (Schools will need to bring their current curriculum plan for their subject focus)

• Session 2: Pedagogy and Assessment

AM – Headteacher and Subject Leader

PM – Subject Leader only

• Session 3 : Lesson Visits and Work Scrutiny

AM – Headteacher and Subject Leader (reference most recent evidence from lesson visits and work scrutiny)

PM – Subject Leader only

• Session 4: Pupil Voice

AM – Headteacher and Subject Leader 

PM – Subject Leader only

• Session 5: Teacher Voice

ALL DAY - Headteacher, Subject Leader AND A TEACHER FROM A DIFFERENT PHASE WITHIN THE SCHOOL THAN THE ONE THE SUBJECT LEAD IS IN

At the end of these sessions, Subject Leaders will be fully equipped with the skills and knowledge to monitor and evaluate their subject.

This course will focus on ensuring Subject Leaders:

• know what makes an effective Subject Leader.
• have access to strategies for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of their subject curriculum.
• have example templates for use in their role.
• will be able to articulate their curriculum design and its effectiveness
