Curriculum Development

Develop a high quality, sequenced curriculum, personalised for your school

A carefully thought out and delivered curriculum which reflects your pupils' context and needs is vital in ensuring your pupils meet their potential.

Lisa has worked with schools for a number of years to develop their curriculum. Dependent on each school's journey, this support is available at different levels.

Full Curriculum Development

This is an extensive and intensive programme aimed at schools who feel that their curriculum is in need of a 'root and branch' review. This level of support usually involves:

  • initial meeting with school leaders, including governors, to establish the main priorities of the curriculum for your pupils. These priorities then form the 'pillars' of the curriculum. * Over a number of visits, the curriculum is developed for each subject/area by working closely with subject leaders ensuring that they are involved and fully understand how and why the pillars are woven into their area of responsibility.
  • coaching leaders on how to review the effectiveness of the delivery of their areas/subjects, through activities such as pupil discussions, lesson visits and work scrutiny.
  • a detailed, written and evaluative report following every visit, outlining key areas of progress and next steps, provided within one school week.
  • termly discussions with Governors about their roles and responsibilities with regards to holding leaders to account for the quality of education and the progress being made with the curriculum review.

This extensive piece of work takes at least one academic year and would require around fifteen visits. Leaders will also be required to complete tasks between visits.

TYPICAL COSTS: Due to the bespoke nature of this support, costs will be dependent on the plan agreed.

Subject/Area Development

This programme is aimed at schools who feel that some areas of their curriculum are not as well developed as others. This level of support usually involves:

* initial discussion, prior to the first visit, to identify which areas/subjects the school wishes to develop further and  the reasons for this.

* a review of the current subject/area curriculum planning

* a one day visit which includes:

- a meeting with the Subject Leader

- reviews of pupils' work alongside the Subject Leader

- pupil discussions about their learning observed by the Subject Leaders

- visits to lessons with the Subject Leader

- verbal feedback to the Headteacher and Subject Leader.

- a detailed, written and evaluative report, outlining key areas of strength and recommended next steps.

Schools may also arrange a follow up visit to report on the effectiveness of changes made by leaders since the initial visit. This often coincides with the review of another subject/area. In all cases, a further written report will be provided within one school week.

This programme, and associated reports, are a highly effective way of governors assuring themselves of the quality of education at their school.
