Pupils with SEND in Mainstream Schools

Adapting your curriculum to ensure pupils with SEND have their full curriculum entitlement.

In order to evaluate whether your school curriculum is successfully designed to ensure that pupils with SEND develop knowledge well, this process will involve working with the SENCo to:

  • evaluate the school's identification processes
  • audit staff skills set and associated training against the school's SEND pupil need
  • how effective plans for pupils focus on appropriate targets and support for SEND pupils
  • how teachers adapt their teaching to ensure SEND pupils have maximum access to learning
  • evaluate the impact of provision though joint monitoring and evaluation activities. 


By the end of this day, your SENCo will have a clear idea of the quality of provision for pupils with SEND across your school and strategies for evaluating this.  A detailed report including recommended next steps, will be provided within one school week.
